LONG PLAYER OF THE DAY: Neil Young, ‘Dead Man’ Soundtrack

The Reason(s) We Can’t Stop Listening: We’re horrible at maintaining our Netflix queue. It’s like we’re always sending the same Pixar movie back. Sometimes we get lucky, though; like the other day, we rediscovered Jim Jarmusch’s waking dream western, Dead Man–easily one of our favorite art house films of all time. Not just because of Johnny Depp and his complex ‘accountant from Cleveland’ character; the movie also features the spare, tumbleweed-dotted soundscapes of Neil Young. Relying mostly on his electric guitar and the occasional organ hum, Young delivers a wildly-expressive score across Dead Man‘s barren backdrop and the words of William Blake. Wanna know how good this soundtrack is? It’s so good we actually sit through the spoken word segments every time.
