Austra Announces New ‘Olympia’ Album, Shares Lead Single

Austra

Well now we know why Maya Postepski quit Trust last year: because the Austra drummer was busy sculpting the band’s rhythm section for their second record, Olympia.

“Maya played a huge role in the production of the album,” explains singer Kagtie Stelmanis, who performed alongside Postepski in the much spazzier band Galaxy previously. “There is a major percussive element running through every song; this is the album where we discovered rhythm.”

The hammering piano house intro and skittish, lavishly layered loops of “Home” certainly follow that template, emphasizing the looser, live-to-tape feel of Austra’s new full-length. “We are really into dense harmonies and big beautiful melodies,” says Stelmanis, “but I also love techno and dance music. I wanted to bring those elements together.”

Check out “Home” below, along with the group’s upcoming tour dates, Stelmanis’ guide to Nine Inch Nails, and the record’s complete tracklisting…
