Darkside’s Dave Harrington Makes a Jazz Mix From His Dad’s Record Collection

With Darkside’s debut album (Psychic) set to drop through Nicolas Jaar’s Other People imprint tomorrow, the duo has given a rare glimpse into the mind of guitarist Dave Harrington. Pulling together a “Plays Pretty Just For You” mix from his father’s jazz-centric record collection, he wrote, “My dad never played an instrument really, and my mom always joked that he was actually tone-deaf. But man, what a taste in music—and in his own way, what an ear too. My dad could tell you who was playing drums and what year the record was made after hearing the first two bars of a song. Maybe his mind never quite figured out how to communicate with his hands or his voice in a musical way—but he certainly had a mind for music”…
