Animal Collective Celebrate Feels Anniversary With Free 2004 Bootleg

Animal Collective

If there’s one thing we remember about Animal Collective in the months leading up to their Feels LP, it’s just how angry their new material sounded live. Maybe angry’s not the right word actually; more like unhinged, as the quartet unveiled beautifully damaged tracks along the lines of “Banshee Beat,” “Grass” and “Did You See the Words.” In its rawest form—see: the concert recording below, which the band just released to mark the album’s 10th anniversary—Feels did just that. It made us feel feelings. And listening to this Cat’s Cradle show brings us right back to the beginning, reminding us of a similar Bowery Ballroom set the same year. Have a listen here, and check out the live triple LP Animal Collective released earlier this year over at Domino.
