Fans still reeling from Colin Stetson’s dizzying one-off record with Mats Gustafsson (the dueling saxes of Stones) have yet another LP to look forward to in the coming months. Due out April 30th through Constellation Records, To See More Light is the last installment in Stetson’s New History Warfare trilogy and the first to feature his Bon Iver bandmate Justin Vernon and several overt nods to heavy-metal. No really; according to a press release, we can expect everything from the “hardcore blast” of “Brute” (featuring Vernon doing his best Carcass imitation) to the “ambient grindcore throb” of “Hunted.” And then there’s the 15-minute title track, which includes at least one passage of tar pit-dredging sludge. None of which should be that surprising considering Ben Frost–a true artisan of dark ambient diatribes–mixed this installment in the chilly environs of Iceland.
