I wasn't there last night, but you perfectly described Norman's Coachella set from last year. He could not get the energy right. You're one mistake is the notion that Cook ever possessed "transcendent DJ skills." Even back in the day, his shtick was playing fun party tunes at a time when every DJ had their progressive house heads up their own asses. In that way, Cook was a precursor to party jocks like Steve Aoki (before he went rave-electro) and A-Trak (without the technical skills). You hit it right on the head.
