PEEP SHOW: Lullabye Arkestra Discuss the Gory Details Behind New “Floating Graveyards” Track, Share Exclusive MP3

A few weeks ago, we told you why Lullabye Arkestra’s essentially a couple’s therapy take on Kylesa—the last thing we’d expect from a Do Make Say Think side project. Now that their Vice debut (Threats/Worship) is a day away from being dropped, we’ve got a special sludge-slinging video/MP3 combo from the Small clan.

First up: a DVD-like commentary on the new cut “Floating Graveyards.” And once you’re done watching that, we’ve got an exclusive MP3 of the song.

Rock.

TEST PRESSING: Zombi Drummer Premiers New “Sci-Fi Disco” Project, Majeure

If you’ve been wondering what Zombi’s done since delivering their third full-length disc, Spirit Animal—aside from telling us why Genesis isn’t godawful—Temporary Residence just revealed the whereabouts of drummer A.E. Paterra. Much like the Lovelock alias of his bandmate Steve Moore, Majeure is disco music for paranoid androids and anyone who appreciates analog synths and the Blade Runner soundtrack.

It’s also epic as hell

We could all learn a lot from Trent Reznor. Not the Trent Reznor who looked like Vlad the Impaler and did way too many drugs, or the Trent Reznor who used to torture ready, willing and able fans alongside Marilyn Manson on the aptly-titled Self Destruct Tour; the Trent Reznor who decided 44 just might be the magical age to stop touring behind songs that have lost most of their meaning. Not to the ones who’ve happily bowed down before the one they serve since the late ’80s—to the man himself. As pissed as Reznor often appears publicly, he’s also someone who’s happily married and healthier now than he was two decades ago. In other words, “Hurt” he’s not.

PARENTAL ADVISORY: S/T Lets Mom and Dad Review New Music by Islands, Ducktails, Girls, Japandroids, The Drums and Yacht

Lazy us, right? Once again, self-titled has outsourced daily content to Mom and Dad (coming up with brain-tickling witticisms every day is tough, guys). Equipped with a batch of new music—songs by Islands, Ducktails, Girls, Japandroids, The Drums and Yacht—we tasked contributor Cassie Marketos with getting her parents reactions. Says Cassie, “My parents must really love me; they’ve willingly submitted themselves to yet another round of torture by indie music. I tried my best to trip them up this time (we all remember how well they did last time), but they refused to be beaten. Dad comes out swinging, as usual, and Mom pretty much just wants to dance. Parents! Can’t live with ‘em; can’t live without their outsider perspective on contemporary culture.”

PEEP SHOW: Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy Helps Nine Inch Nails Cover Joy Division, Rumble Through “Reptile”

Peter Murphy, live in London a couple years back

Poor Peter Murphy. Here he was, clearly the Big Surprise on the third night of Nine Inch Nails‘ Wave Goodbye Tour—a nod to NIN’s Ramen days on the road with the Bauhaus frontman—and most of Terminal 5’s beyond-packed crowd didn’t appear to know who the old-guy-in-the-makeup was.

Oh well. We did. And we certainly appreciated his operatic approach to a classic Downward Spiral cut (the cage-rattling loops and steady lashings of “Reptile”) and the Joy Division song NIN once covered for the Crow soundtrack (“Dead Souls”), aka the first CD self-titled proudly picked up from Media Play.

Here are full video clips of the two songs. We’ll have stage front shots and a story related to last night’s show later today…

We get a lot of crap CDs at the self-titled offices. But once in a while, a pleasant surprise slips into our promo stack. Here’s a recent delivery that knocked the S/T staff on its collective ass.
