Instead of going on and on about our top picks of 2009 and the past 10 years—we’ll do that later—self-titled asked some standout artists to share their favorite records. Up next: MONO uncovers Ennio Morricone’s heart-sinking Baaria soundtrack.

Ennio Morricone, Baaría (Import)
I always look forward to new material by Ennio Morricone. This soundtrack is much darker and sadder than his recent work. I found it so melancholic and intensely beautiful. The arrangements on this album are very unique—it makes me wonder if he is trying to create progressive modern classical music. In a way it reminds me of one of my favorite artists, Gavin Bryars. This music seems timeless to me, like I could listen to it at any stage of my life. — Taka
