Fresh off their string of mom-impressing shows with Nine Inch Nails, Health is headed to the Knitting Factory tomorrow for their only NYC-area appearance. Supporting the s/t-approved noiseniks are Angel Deradoorian of Dirty Projectors and the Dan Deacon-related duo Video Hippos. (Careful: Their Web site is almost as epilectic as M.I.A.’s.) Since we want you to have extra money for those $3 Pabst cans—or even a Red Stripe if you’re lucky—self-titled has a pair or two of tickets to give away. Judged solely by their stark and stirring techno sets, Michael Mayer and Superpitcher aren’t exactly the types you’d expect to form a ‘fun-loving duo.’ Yet here they are, going so far as to construct comic book sleeves and sloppily-stitched puppets (see above) for their oft-surprising Supermayer project. To say we’re psyched about the pair’s appearance at the last night of Été D’Amour’s Santos residency would be a severe understatement. After all, we’re a HUGE fan of Superpitcher alone—both his original tracks (the piano stabs, steady beat and sweeping strings of “Happiness” have yanked a couple emo-tastic tears from us before) and his rather deep DJ sets.

Techno heads, take note: Kevin Saunderson—one of the Belleville Three’s true pioneers—will be spinning records in Brooklyn this Sunday, July 13, as the “Sunday Best” weekly takes over the Yard from 3-9 p.m. Expect some Midwestern classics (Saunderson’s Inner City duo shifted more than 6 million worldwide albums over the course of two LPs and 12 Top 40 UK hits), as well as a glimpse at Saunderson’s next future-shocked direction. And who knows what that’ll be? After all, Saunderson commissioned an incredible collection of artists to remix his classic material this year, including Simian Mobile Disco, Loco Dice, John Tejada, Luciano, Jesse Rose, the Rapture, Carl Craig and Mathew Jonson. Everyone from minimal techno architects to electro-house auteurs, in other words. As for Saunderson himself, the producer/DJ is currently crafting remixes for two Next Big Things: The Presets and Hercules and Love Affair.

Blogs have been abuzz about White Williams‘ Hot Chip-ish electro pop since his minimal, subtle debut (Smoke, Tigerbeat6) dropped last fall. That includes everything from CMJ appearances to a recent L.A. gig that earned the following accolades from Bathtub Explosion:

[White Williams] is a smooth operator; he doesn’t freeze up, he doesn’t fall down, and he doesn’t fuck up. He glides effortlessly from instrument to instrument, and rarely makes eye contact with the audience while he steps through his songs. But the lack of eye contact is not one of shyness, instead, it appears to be one of confidence and carelessness; you’d swear he’s been doing this for decades. He loosely wraps the mic cord around his hand to prevent himself from tripping over it while he slowly dances through his loungy beats.
