Download it here. According to a press release, Fires of Comparison is strictly instrumental because “both boys contracted strep throat from sharing a pipe with a hobo in San Diego’s Presidio Park.” We’ve also been informed that “these tracks are intended to be enjoyed under the mind-altering influence of 2XB-27, a drug concocted in Charles’ toilet by their friend, Dr. Russel Cash.”
Cheers to that. Crocodiles’ latest LP, Sleep Forever, drops on 9/14 through Fat Possum. And their fall tour dates—most of which happen in late October/early November—can be found after the jump…
Warp Records will release Shobaleader One: d’DEMONSTRATOR, a mysterious nine-track release from Squarepusher, on 10/19. An Ed Banger single related to the record is now available and can be streamed here. An epileptic teaser video also trickled out this morning…
No Age have added a few more dates to their fall tour, which now includes a handful of East Coast stops in September and two weeks out West in November. Lucky Dragons open most of the shows, with Pavement stepping into the headliner slot in Chicago, St. Paul, Milwaukee, Columbus and L.A.
The L.A. duo’s second Sub Pop LP, Everything In Between, arrives on 9/28. A hefty vinyl version—featuring a 48-page (!) booklet—is available for pre-order now. Their new single, “Glitter,” can also be grabbed in separate 7/12-inch pressings or sampled at Sub Pop’s Soundcloud page.
Check out the dates, and a rather bizarre video (directed by guitarist Randy Randall, in rare, bring-out-the-gimp form) after the jump…

Okay, so it’s not the album we’ve been waiting for since Zola Jesus revealed her stormy pop side (the rather excellent Stridulum EP) earlier this year. What Valusia does instead is pair the three previously unreleased tracks from her import-only Stridulum II record with a couple music videos (available here, along with commentary from director Jacqueline Castel) and her first work with producer Chris Coady (“Poor Animal,” featuring Cult of Youth’s Christiana Key on violin). All of which are s/t-approved—so much so that we’ll be featuring Zola Jesus on our next cover, due out in late September.
In the meantime, you might want to mark your calendar with the following tour dates, which include three weeks of support slot sets for the xx. The vinyl version of Valusia (due out October 12 through Sacred Bones) is also available for pre-order now here.

So we were checking up on Cold Cave—the stars of self-titled’s sixth issue—the other day and stumbled upon a rather random cover song that was cut in Wesley Eisold’s old Philly apartment last summer. It’s from an obscure British band called Hunkydory, which Uncut describes as follows:
An authentic children’s band from Lewes, East Sussex, Hunkydory signed to that safe haven for eccentrics, él records, in 1988. These five precocious children sang and played all their own instruments, with the bulk of the material being written and arranged by one of the band’s dads.
Hunkydory’s rare Over the Rainbow record can be found here. As for where Cold Cave’s at with their proper Matador debut, frontman Wesley Eisold told us that he’s heading into the studio with Chris Coady this October and “can’t wait” to start tracking. An Italians Do It Better 12-inch is also expected from the group at some point.

So we had a serious why-the-hell-not epiphany when the Vaselines announced their long-awaited—as in decades—second album a couple months ago. And it goes a little something like this: wouldn’t it be apropos if we asked the pair to answer reader questions about love, sex, and why they’ll never be able to marry their hamster, cat, or horse?
After all, the new Vaselines record is called Sex With an X, and one of their most beloved indie pop jams features the following lines: “You think you’re a man/You are only a boy/You think you’re a man/You are only a toy/You think you’re a man/But you just couldn’t see/You weren’t man enough to satisfy me.”
Preach on, brothers and sisters; preach on. And while you’re busy getting ready to revisit “Monsterpussy,” “Rory Rides Me Raw” and “Molly’s Lips” on the road next month, we’ll be fielding the deepest, darkest queries of your fans.
Here’s how this is gonna work…Check out the two free cuts after the jump, let them sink in a bit, and then leave your battle of the sexes questions as a comment or—if you want to get really real—E-mail our editor. The deadline for submissions to the band’s advice column is Friday at noon EST. Oh, and the “Sex With an X” 7-inch drops on Tuesday.
