  • Stream Gold Panda’s New Single, “Mountain” / “Financial District”

It’s been a minute since we last heard from Gold Panda, and while we’re still waiting for his next LP, the producer’s new 7”—two instrumental slabs of “modern hip-hop”—is a fitting palette cleanser for whatever’s on the way next.

“Listening to ‘Mountain’ again on a trip to Japan over New Year,” explains Derwin Schlecker, “we flew directly over Mt.Fuji and it seemed to just fit what I was seeing out of the window. ‘Financial District’ was just the opposite of the vast expanse of the mountain I guess. Crowded, synthetic and shiny…repetitive—and of course both can erupt at anytime.”

The limited clear vinyl pressing of “Mountain”/”Financial District” isn’t out until June 5th, but you can pre-order at Ghostly International’s Web store now. Sample the flip side below…

VIDEO: Watch John Norris Interview John Maus

Fresh off revisiting the twilight zone tracks of last year’s We Must Become We Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves LP, we just stumbled upon this Noisevox interview between John Maus and former MTV staple John Norris. Our favorite part: when Maus says he’s “flattered to be with an institution…back when MTV actually played music, before it became un-ending praise for the situation as it stands, and the re-upification of despicable humanity, you know?”

We know, John; we know. For our own attempt at bottling Maus’ nervous energy, grab our twelfth issue in iPad/Android form here, or sample the embeddedable Web version below…

Roni Size has announced a brief tour of the U.S., including dates in Buffalo, New York, and Detroit’s Movement Electronic Music Festival. The rare run—the jungle icon’s last high profile appearances were his first stateside sets in seven years—comes hot on the heels of news that Size is still working on a new Reprazent record. Check out tour details below, along with a classic BBC Essential mix and a streaming version of the surprisingly killer 2008 re-edit of Roni Size & Reprazent’s undisputed classic, New Forms

DOWNLOAD THIS NOW: Azealia Banks, “Jumanji” (Produced by Hudson Mohawke + Nick Hook)

Well this is reassuring: a new Azealia Banks track that’s produced by Hudson Mohawke and Nick Hook (see also: Cubic Zirconia and the live bands of El-P and Drop the Lime). Which pretty much proves the singer/rapper isn’t severing her underground ties now that Kanye and Karl (Lagerfield, that is) are up in her business.

Grab “Jumanji” in the above player and look out for her Fantastic mixtape this summer. In the meantime, we’ve got Banks’ first stateside cover story here.

Stream ‘The Diver’ & Read About Led Er Est’s Literary Influences

Led Er Est (Photo: Nikki Sneakers)

Every time self-titled asks an artist to give a track-by-track breakdown of their latest album, we give them one strict guideline: tell us the stories behind your songs, not the in-studio geek speak that’ll only appeal to fellow musicians and producers. Led Er Est went one step further with The Diver (available now through Sacred Bones), pairing each of their steel-plated synth pieces with seemingly random literary quotes. Random until you listen closely, and the LP’s many layers—sonically and conceptually—reveal themselves…

LISTEN: Oneohtrix Point Never, “I Only Have Eyes For You”

As first reported on Pitchfork last month, the multimedia artist Doug Aitken recently asked Beck, Devendra Banhart, James Murphy and a handful of other left field-leaning artists to cover the song “I Only Have Eyes For You” for his SONG 1 project. Set to happen at Washington, DC’s Hirshhorn Museum tomorrow, the multimedia art performance be live-streamed via Pitchfork.tv’s YouTube channel starting at 8 p.m. EST, featuring Aitken’s visuals and the music of Animal Collective’s Geologist, Nicolas Jaar, No Age, High Places, Tim McAfee-Lewis and Leo Gallo.

Check out Oneohtrix Point Never’s contribution in the above player and Aitken’s installation video below…

DOWNLOAD THIS NOW: LA Vampires + Octo Octa, “Wherever Boy”

[XLR8R] Amanda Brown’s LA Vampires project has announced its latest collaborative EP, a 12” featuring her 100% Silk label mate Octo Octa. While it’s much more club-ready than Brown’s previous work with Matrix Metals, Ital and Zola Jesus, it’s still strange enough to warrant a double take or, in the case of “Wherever Boy,” a survey of your speakers to make sure the signal’s not scrambled. Grab one free MP3 in the above player, or head down below for the video version of “Freedom 2K.”

    LISTEN: M83, “Reunion (Mylo Remix)”

M83′s Reunion EP drops on May 28th through Mute. For some glaring reminders of just how awesome Mylo’s last album (2004′s Destroy Rock & Roll) was, check out a few videos below. Maybe this means the producer’s finally ready for a proper return?
