LONG PLAYER OF THE DAY: In Trance 95, ‘Cities of Steel and Neon’

The Artist/Album: In Trance 95, Cities of Steel and Neon (Minimal Wave, 2011)

A Short Review: Minimal Wave’s quality control quotient is always high, and this collection of 4-track tape recordings is no exception. Limited to just 999 hand-numbered LPs, it’s a steel-plated survey of Greece’s greatest minimal-synth surgeons–a duo that howls and heaves their way across a field of metronomic melodies and battery-powered EBM beats. No wonder why Depeche Mode’s Alan Wilder asked In Trance 95 to reform for a Recoil gig a few years ago. Now all we need is a new album.
