LONG PLAYER OF THE DAY: Quicksand, ‘Slip’

Quicksand - 'Slip' cover

Quicksand - 'Slip' cover The Artist/Album: Quicksand, Slip (Polydor, 1993)

Our Review: As you may have heard, Quicksand were the surprise guests at Revelation Records’ 25th anniversary show last night. Having revisited their debut album pretty heavily last week, we’re pretty psyched at the prospect of a proper reunion tour. Here’s why you should be too: Slip perfected the art of post-hardcore music by putting an equal emphasis on Walter Schreifels’ (see also: the legendary NYC hardcore bands Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits) sing-shout-y melodies, the sinewy rhythm section of drummer Alan Cage and bassist Sergio Vega, and the cleanup guitar chords of Tom Capone. In other words, they sound airtight, and like a literal revelation for listeners who only recognize Schreifels from his time in Rival Schools. Now if only they’d get around to wrapping the record that was summarily shelved in 1999…
