The last time we checked in with Peter Broderick, the composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer was channeling the one and only John Cage. A lot’s happened since then, including his marriage to fellow musician Brigid Mae Power and the couple’s move to her native Ireland. Broderick had some unfinished business to attend to back home in Oregon first, however, including Power’s upcoming The Ones You Keep Close record (see: its lead single below) and Find the Ways, the debut album from Allred & Broderick, a new duo with recurring collaborator David Allred.

“Over the years, I have felt a very strong connection to Peter’s music and friendship,” explains Allred, “and I feel that this collaboration comes from a really good place. I hope this music gives the listeners a feeling of comfort, confusion and understanding.”

Much of that warm blanket vibe comes from the pair’s minimal setup: vocals, Broderick’s violin, and Allred’s upright bass, all recorded live with no overdubs or edits. In a lot of ways, it sounds like the Kings of Convenience album we didn’t even know we needed in these dark, dark days.

“With this recording David and I set out to make something raw,” says Broderick, “which is an honest document of what we are capable of doing together at once…. Just two guys playing together in a room.”

Check out Find the Ways in full below and look out for the LP’s official release on Erased Tapes this Friday….
