The Artist/Album: Clinic, Walking With Thee (Domino, 2002)
The Reason(s) We Can’t Stop Listening: There was a time not too long ago–okay, make that nearly a decade ago–when Clinic were still considered Liverpool’s creepiest gang of Mr. Giggles understudies around. Back then, they got the vocal backing of bands like Radiohead by playing brisk, somewhat savage garage rock sets that felt like they were broadcasted from the great beyond. Walking With Thee is the second part of a one-two punch (the other being the equally essential Internal Wrangler LP) that was bound to never quite be topped. Check out a video from this prickly period below, and be sure to blast songs like “Pet Eunuch” the next time you’re looking for an excuse to throw a lamp out your hotel window. Or if you’re looking for something a little more laid-back, the sinister pop grooves of “Sunlight Bathes Our Home” and “Come Into Our Room” will do just fine.
