The Artist/Album: Cursive, The Ugly Organ (Saddle Creek, 2003)
Our Review: A concept album full of double entendres and emo-tastic fairy tales, Cursive’s fourth album is their finest hour, a bloodletting masterpiece of metaphorical confessionals that leaves only the slightest hint of hope. That’d be on the 10-minute closer, a Bright Eyes/The Faint-assisted promise to stay alive, “kicking and screaming…blood boiling and streaming.”
Melodramatic? Of course. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
