The Artist/Album: Pig Destroyer, Phantom Limb (Relapse, 2007)

Our Review: We don’t listen to a lot of grind records, but when we do, we listen to Pig Destroyer. The reason is simple: While many members of the fast and furious crowd produce comical self-parodies, Pig Destroyer plows through their songs with a purpose, marrying J.R. Hayes’ nuthouse hooks to Blake Harrison’s fractured electronics, Brian Harvey’s diamond-edged drums and Scott Hull’s Slayer-like riffs. Willfully deranged, yet undeniably catchy, like the horror movies these guys most likely fall asleep to. Don’t drink strong iced coffee while listening though; we did today, and are in serious need of an oxygen tank now.
