While we have to be in a certain mood—read: jacked on liters of mainlined Mountain Dew—to appreciate Dan Deacon’s music at home, there’s no denying the way his live sets flood your serotonin levels. Case in point: the pawn shop auteur’s headlining set at the Insound/Oh My Rockness day party on Thursday. Not content with sticking to his usual wall-breaking routine—chopping up samples and hyper-speed hooks right on the ground—Deacon also demanded a dance-off between pogoing fans and asked one of South by Southwest’s longtime booking agents to lead everyone in a synchronized dance routine. As much as we dig Dan Deacon‘s live show, self-titled can’t stand when he pitch-shifts his voice to the point of sounding like a Looney Tunes character. We’re pretty sure some of you are into it, though.
