Swans Announce New Double Album

Michael Gira revealed the details behind Swans’ latest double LP today, including its title (To Be Kind), release date (May 13th through Young God/Mute) and guest list, which is led by St. Vincent (“Annie Clark sang numerous, multi-tracked vocals throughout the record,” Gira wrote) and rounded out by multi-instrumentalist Bill Rieflin (R.E.M., King Crimson, Ministry), string arranger Julia Kent, Cold Specks and Little Annie. The self-produced effort was tracked in El Paso, Texas, with John Congleton at the tail end of 2013 and based largely on the live material Swans developed on the road over the past couple years. As such, expect yet another ecstatic listen that marches past the two-hour mark and is spread over two CDs and three slabs of vinyl. Maybe even a memory stick, “so that this ultimate, high quality version can be listened to from beginning to end, without interruption.”

In the meantime, here are the solo live dates Gira has lined up for March and a live version of the title track…
