Twitter Updates for 2008-08-18

  • Downloading the new David Byrne/Brian Eno. Three purchase options. I went with the digital download + CD (to be mailed in December). #
  • For $70 you can get a custom package that sort of looks like an ice cream cake with a house as decoration. #
  • Upcoming later today: A Live Twitter of our first go’round through the Brian Eno/David Byrne album. Thoughts and reflections. #
  • the first track “Home” begins sounding like a classic Flaming Lips song intro #
  • Byrne’s voice sounds old #
  • but then again, he never really sounded young. #
  • production is beautiful. lots of great guitars across the background reminiscent of Eno’s pop records #
  • “My Big Nurse” is slower. Mostly acoustic guitar. #
  • sounds a little Wilco-ish. #
  • Anyone expecting a return to My Life in the Bush of Ghosts will be disappointed #
  • but how could you really expect that after so many years and in such a different time. #
  • “I Feel My Stuff” has some fantastic tumbling, rhythmic piano work #
  • dark and minimal–dare I say, this has some Massive Attack elements to it. Best song so far. #
  • or at least some trip-hoppy Portishead notes #
  • just got real lively #
  • guitar! #
  • this song is long as shit #
  • short break. be back on it soon. #
  • “Everything That Happens” is real light and whispy #
  • been noticing that Byrne’s vocals have been filled with lots of cliches–almost to the point where it seems intentional #
  • big choral-group vocals #
  • nice fade-out ending #
  • “Life Is Long”–now there’s an idea! :-p #
  • Wow! This track sounds like straight Tom Petty #
  • pretty rad guitar stuff going on in the background. how come all the rad guitar is sorta hidden? #
  • horns! #
  • sounds like water drops on “The River”–obvious, yes. #
  • “A change is gonna come, like Sam Cooke said in ’63” Obama, y’all! #
  • “Strange Overtones” is the free single. Was so lukewarm on this track at first. But it gets better and better with more listens. #
  • definitely the catchiest of the bunch. #
  • “This groove is out of touch. These beats are 20 years old.” #
  • All the Eno touches are so fuckin’ great to hear. Don’t think Byrne should sing as much as he is, though. #
  • Cyber-grind = “Wanted For Life” #
  • dude’s singing all weird. this track also sounds like Flaming Lips, though not really in a good way. #
  • easily the worst song so far. Not awful. just not very good. #
  • losing steam a little with “One Fine Day” #
  • “Poor Boy” is awesome. You have to hear it to believe it. Totally sick beat. Most reminiscent of My Life album. #
  • Damn, now I want to watch Wall Street. #
  • “The Lighthouse” = sufficient closer #
  • The Gist: Better than expected. Not mind-blowing. But a really fun listen. With some cool WTF moments. #
  • @WIZARDISHUNGRY I think a lot of it has to do with the strummed acoustic over a drum machine. #
  • Maybe it’s just our inner riot grrrl talking, but does anyone else miss Sleater-Kinney? #
  • @amandacho LOL @ u #
