M83’s Anthony Gonzalez Shares Film Score Track From ‘Oblivion’

As revealed by Rolling Stone this morning, M83 frontman Anthony Gonzalez has shared the first track from his score for the Joseph Kosinski film Oblivion. That’d be the Tom Cruise vehicle directed by the same CGI auteur who directed Tron: Legacy and the only video game commercial that almost–almost!–made us cry.

“I’m not afraid to do my first soundtrack on a big Hollywood movie, with a big budget and a lot of pressure,” Gonzalez told The Playlist last June. “I like challenges and it excites me more than frightens me.”

That much is clear in “StarWaves,” a stirring, string-heavy piece that’ll sync right up with the story of Jack Harper, described as one of the “last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth” to help a “massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs.” Check out the song and the film’s trailer below…
