Nils Frahm - "Re" video

As Nils Frahm gets set to bring his boundary-busting live show back to the states this fall, the composer/pianist has revisited his 2012 record Screws with an animated clip from Balázs Simon.

“I instantly fell in love with [Screws],” Simon said in a press release, “not only because of the music, but also because of its backstory. Listening to ‘Re’ planted a story and a world in my head, so I decided to create a music video for it.”

“Even though my doctor told me not to touch a piano for a while, I just couldn’t resist,” Frahm explained a few years ago, referring to the songs he wrote while recovering from a broken thumb. “I started playing a silent song with four fingers on my left and the remaining five on my right hand. I set up one microphone and recorded another tune every other night before falling asleep. The day I got rid of my cast I had recorded nine little tunes. They have helped me feel less annoyed about my accident and reminded me that any good is something I can only achieve, when I am making the most out of what I’ve got.”
