As much an art piece as it is an album — an early pressing even included a “limited incense leaf” — Shatter could easily be construed as the spiritual successor to the Louderbach project Troy Pierce pursued about a decade ago with Dais co-founder Gibby Miller. Only this time, Natalia Escobar (aka Poison Arrow) is along for the ride — a slo-mo stroll through dimly lit streets that dovetails with Dais’ own crimson-tinged back catalogue quite nicely.
Sure enough, Pierce With Arrow’s visuals came before their songs, as did the desire to channel the Greek myth of Echo and Narcissus. The following Needle Exchange set — a two-hour tour of shattered liminal states — is just as disorienting and dream-like. Or as the duo puts it, “This is a mix to enhance non-ordinary states. Oneiric moments are combined with uncanny nostalgic sounds, fading in and out of reality….”
