Ryuichi Sakamoto

Composer/Yellow Magic Orchestra co-founder Ryuichi Sakamoto has cancelled all of his remaining 2014 appearances to focus on treating the throat cancer he was diagnosed with a few weeks ago. This includes the Sapporo International Art Festival he spent the past two years planning (“although I will be absent, all of the programs with be of highest quality,” he assured attendees) and a performance celebrating the 20th anniversary of Park Hyatt Tokyo at the end of this month.

“I deeply regret causing so many people [a] considerable inconvenience,” Sakamoto wrote on his Web site. “However, the first wealth is health, and hence this bitter decision… Please bare with me while I regain my health. I promise to return after a full recovery. Thank you very much.”
