The Set In a Few Sentences: If you’ve ever heard the heady harmonics of Pocahaunted, then you’re probably as bewildered by Bethany Cosentino’s soda shop pop project as we are. (She quit the duo after a brief move to New York, leaving co-founder Amanda Brown to pick up the pieces with a full-on band.) Starting with a limited cassette and string of singles in 2009, Cosentino went from creepy to catchy with songs about “summer and the sun and the ocean and being a lazy creep.” And as her Levi’s/FADER Fort set proved, Best Coast is an album away from leaving her bedroom productions behind for an actual breakthrough album.
