Domino Announces Pre-Sale Details For Limited Vinyl Pressing of ‘Mount Wittenberg Orca’, Björk and Dirty Projectors’ Song Suite

Remember Mount Wittenberg Orca, the benefit record that Björk and Dirty Projectors released digitally a little over a year ago? Well it’s finally receiving a proper CD/LP pressing through Domino on October 25th, featuring the following:

The deluxe LP of Mount Wittenberg Orca features 180-gram heavyweight virgin vinyl pressed at 45RPM for maximum hi-fidelity resolution. The sleeve is comprised of a 12×12″ three-dimensional lenticular cover of Mount Wittenberg, so realistic that you can almost smell the junipers. Inside is a gorgeous 12-page large-format full-color booklet with stills from the original YouTube films of the Mount Wittenberg environs by director Matthew Lessner (“Stillness Is the Move”), a full-text libretto of the suite and complete liner notes.

All LPs are hand-numbered, limited to only one pressing worldwide. The CD version also features an extensive full color booklet with video stills, libretto and liner notes.

Pre-order your copy here, and stream a song from the project below…

FREE ASSOCIATION: Stream Prefuse 73’s ‘The Only She Chapters’ LP and Read Guillermo Scott Herren’s Track-By-Track Commentary

Photo: Angel Ceballos

Free Association is a recurring self-titled feature where we go beyond simply streaming a new album (we’re looking at you NPR and Spinner!) and ask our favorite artists to share the stories behind their songs.

Up this week: Prefuse 73’s new one, a profoundly haunted exploration of the ether within Guillermo Scott Herren’s ever-evolving sample banks. Not to mention the raw power of such vocalists as Zola Jesus, Angel Deradoorian, and Trish Keenan. Or as the producer puts it in the following exclusive, “Yes, it requires patience, but everything underneath is mutating and taking shapes of its own.”

Listen to The Only She Chapters late at night with the lights off and you’re headphones on blast and you’ll understand exactly what he means…

Dirty Projectors Announce Limited Other Music LP, Share Live Acoustic Version of “Temecula Sunrise”

Photo: Jen Maler

Dave Longstreth just sent an E-mail to Dirty Projectors’ mailing list, sharing the following details about their month-long fall tour…

“We’re going to pack about 18 nights’ worth of songs into our rucksacks and just plan on letting a few go in every city. The songs will be from phylum Orca, genus Mount Wittenberg; genus Bitte; various specimens of the Rise Above family, maybe some from the New Attitude kingdom, and hopefully a few other more unclassifiable ones … hopefully they’ll fly up into the trees and indigenize alright, like those parrots who build nests on top of phone poles in your old babysitter’s neighborhood.”

He went on to say that the band’s got two new releases on tap. First up: an expanded two-disc edition of Bitte Orca that includes all of the album’s B-sides and a special acoustic set that was captured at Other Music last year. It arrives on 9/21 and can be pre-ordered here. A week later, Other Music will release a limited white label vinyl pressing of their five tracks. You can pre-order one (or two, which is the limit) of 500 copies now.

Check out the tracklisting after the jump, along with tour dates and a free record aisle rendition of “Temecula Sunrise.”

Dirty Projectors Upload Limited ‘Ascending Melody’ 7-inch For Your Listening Pleasure

Dirty Projectors know some of you are dirt poor and/or don’t own a turntable. That’s why they just uploaded a new limited 7-inch called “Ascending Melody”—because they like you.

“These songs are from the Bitte Orca sessions,” the band wrote on their MySpace page. “They are awesome but they just didn’t fit with the vibe of the album. Kinda like ‘Soul To Squeeze’ on Blood Sugar Sex Magik.”

The only catch here is you have to sign up for the band’s E-mail list. But hey, you can always hit delete every time they invade your inbox, right? Check the download link after the jump along with the video for “Soul To Squeeze.”

Fresh off yesterday’s collection of candid shots, here’s a front-and-center live set from Austin City Limits, beginning with Alison Mosshart of The Kills and Dead Weather. If you haven’t read our full band interview with the latter, do it now. Jack White’s particularly priceless—almost as priceless as he is behind the kit in the next couple photos.
