Finally; after years of working with Dirty Projectors, a recent co-starring role in Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, a fairly old EP, and session work alongside Prefuse 73, Flying Lotus, Matmos and more, Angel Deradoorian has wrapped her debut album. Due out August 21st through Anticon, The Expanding Flower Planet promises “faint hints of Alice Coltrane and Can, Terry Riley and Dorothy Ashby.”

Sure enough, lead single “A Beautiful Woman” is cast against a “Mushroom” cloud, with rim shot rhythms, a steady pulse and laser-cut vocal lines setting a stage that’s both foreign and familiar. Free your mind and the rest will follow:
