Tag: Holy Ghost!
As LCD Soundsystem heads into the Big Dance portion of its final week as one of indie rock’s only truly entertaining live bands, we thought we’d share the free remix iTunes unloaded on fans this week—Holy Ghost!‘s DayGlo rendition of “Drunk Girls,” which is arguably better than the original. Or at the very least, laser-guided and synth-laced in the areas where James Murphy kept things intentionally simple. It’s available after the jump along with Holy Ghost’s Mad Libs entry in our new issue…

As you may have noticed on our Twitter feed, the iPad edition of our new issue landed on Zinio’s newsstand tonight. You can grab it here, or order a discounted subscription that starts today by clicking this.
Here’s what’s inside:
To give you an idea of how long Holy Ghost! took to finish their first proper full-length, they first started talking about it more than three years ago, and the last we’d heard, they were “mixing it for an early 2010 release.” If there’s one reason they waited this long, it’s probably because the disc is a bit of a departure—a full-on pop album, really, one that builds upon the shimmering foundation of last year’s Static On the Wires EP.
Fans will be able to hear what we mean when the duo premiers the entire self-titled record with a full band at Mercury Lounge on February 2. And if you don’t live in New York, well, the record will finally drop on DFA April 5. In the meantime, you can download the LP’s lead-off single in exchange for your E-mail address at their official site. Or you can stream the synth-slinging “Do It Again” below…

One of the reasons Holy Ghost! still haven’t released a proper record is their endless stream of remix requests, from Moby to MGMT to Phoenix. To put their growing cut-and-paste resume in perspective, the New York duo recently dubbed a highly-limited mixtape with drops from such friends and label mates as James Murphy, A-Trak and Moby. The cassette version flew off Turntable Lab’s virtual shelves within days, but a high-quality digital version is now available for free through DFA‘s site. We’ve uploaded it for you below (right click to download), along with a full tracklisting and a bonus disco dust edit of Van She‘s “Don’t Fear the Reaper” cover.
As for where Holy Ghost!’s at with their long-awaited LP, they’re currently mixing the effort for an early 2010 release.
