Flying Lotus Discusses New Prog Album, Captain Murphy in Twitter Interview

Flying Lotus took a break from the Sundance Film Festival—Imperial Dreams, a movie he scored, had its worldwide premiere this week—to field questions over Twitter yesterday. Scattered amongst completely random questions about meeting Burial (“he always whispers”), taking salvia (“stay away from that shit; it’s pretty dark”) and watching professional wrestling (“[The Rock] actually inspired me a lot”) were the following revelations about the producer’s 2014 plans:

  • He tried to get some beats onto ScHoolboy Q’s new album but the collaborations never quite came together.
  • His next album is in the mixing stages and still missing a “few vox/features.” Unlike the jazzier direction of 2012’s Until the Quiet Comes, this one’s heavily influenced by prog rock (Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Queen) and heady beat conductors like Actress and Matthewdavid.
  • Fans of  his work with Thundercat can expect more from the pair, as they’re “always working” together.
  • “Lots” of Captain Murphy material is on deck. “Just trust my process,” he wrote. “There’s a plan. Always a plan.”
