NE190: An Exclusive Ocoeur Mix

Ocoeur

Much like his own upcoming album Reversed (out March 25th through n5MD) and admitted influences like Aphex Twin and Apparat, Ocoeur’s Needle Exchange mix tugs at our heart strings without sounding melodramatic or sappy. Like all good mixtapes, it’s also a crash course in neo-classical, ambient and experimental records we hadn’t even heard of before. Follow along to listen and learn from the man himself…

FLOEX – “PERLIN NOISE”
I’ve discovered Floex’s pieces through the game Machinarium and was completely taken by them instantly. His works are so brilliant in shaping dreamy landscapes.

ARVE HENRIKSEN – “PLACES OF WORSHIP”
The way Arve Henriksen plays is absolutely blissful. This track showcases a perfect combination between melancholy and peacefulness. A very smooth track that is often the soundtrack to my Sunday mornings.

NEST – “THE TWELVE”
Doubtless one of my favorite ambient/modern classical collaborations I’ve discovered in recent years. I only need to wear my headphones and close my eyes to imagine floating over hills and contemplating the mist dancing through the trees.

FLOEX – “ON THE ROOF OF THE YELLOW PSYCHEDELIC MUSHROOM (ZKA4T REMIX)”
Magnificent texture shaping. Basses and harmonies are mesmerizing as well. Hard to fully describe my feelings for this one. Zka4t’s remix is very abstract.

VIEO ABIUNGO – “AND THE WORLD IS STILL YAWNING (FIELD ROTATION REMIX)”
A piece which reminds me of the true beauty and inescapable fate of life. The strings are very pure and sincere. Absolutely breathtaking.

OCOEUR – “GIONIS”
Here’s one of my latest tracks that I composed one evening during a full moon. Its title comes from a Greek story between two brothers, which is meaningful to me.

BRAMBLES – “SUCH OWLS AS YOU”
An appeasing atmosphere Like Nest’s “The Twelve,” Brambles gets me nostalgic about unknown memories. They manage to arrange sensitive, deep and relaxing music. I listen to this one often during rainy days.

THE GREEN KINGDOM – “UNTITLED 02”
Another amazing piece of peaceful ambience that I discovered through another game (Hotline Miami 2). The Green Kingdom mixes downy textures and clicky drums to great effect. Definitely added it in my ambient collection.

CHEQUERBOARD – “A FIELD OF NIGHT”
Taken from one my latest discovery The Unfolding. Especially this track has a very pleasant vibe that I often turn to when traveling. Pads and guitars are immersive and I can listen it many times on repeat.

BOREALIS – “MINERVA (HECA REMIX)”
As always, Hecq made a very meticulous remix here. Impressive sound design and very deep bass.
