Björk Announces Eight-Part ‘Biophilia’ Remixes Series, Featuring Hudson Mohawke, Death Grips, These New Puritans and More

Bjork - 'Biophilia' Remixes

If there’s one thing Björk’s always excelled at, it’s picking the right producers to work with in the studio and on the remix front. Our only complaint is how pricey the latter can get for her fans, what with all the limited, deluxe vinyl singles that are released around most of her records. Biophilia is no exception, as it’s set to be spun on its head with an eight-part series of remixes featuring the following contributors: 16-bit, Alva Noto, El Guincho, Hudson Mohawke, King Cannibal, These New Puritans, and the singer’s longtime remixer in residence, Matthew Herbert.

Up first: entries from Current Value (out now) and Death Grips (available April 30th), which can be streamed here and here.

Listen to 10 Versions of “Love Will Tear Us Apart”

So we were flipping through some old records tonight and stumbled upon this—the Dub Will Tear Us Apart 12” that remains the sole release of Jäh Division. While Oneida drummer Kid Millions is one of its only recurring members, the group has courted everyone from Animal Collective’s Josh Dibb to Soft Circle’s Hisah Bharoocha for one-off performances in the past. And needless to say, they’re awesome.

At any rate, this particular EP got us thinking: how many passable versions of “Love Will Tear Us Apart” are out there? Here’s your answer…

VIDEO: Watch 20 of Our Favorite PS22 Chorus Covers, Including Ariel Pink, The Cure, Tom Waits, Björk and Black Sabbath

In case Pitchfork and Twitter didn’t get to you first, self-titled thought we’d share the PS22 Chorus’ rather priceless rendition of “Round and Round.” That’d be the Ariel Pink song that was the soundtrack to everyone’s Wet Hot American Summer last year. And while we’re at it, how about we sift 19 more s/t-approved cover songs from their incredibly daunting YouTube channel? (As of today, it includes more than 460 clips.)

Oh, by the way, these kids are performing at the Oscars this year. Yeah. Beats the hell out of the one time we sang “The Sound of Silence” in second grade.
