Stream Four Tet and Burial’s Third Limited Text Single, “Nova”

Four Tet has quietly leaked his third single with Burial, a spooky little numbed called “Nova.” Expect it in your friendly neighborhood record shop soon via the producer’s increasingly prolific Text Records imprint. Don’t freak out about its limited run, either; as Four Tet told us in an interview last year, “To be honest, it’s all bullshit. The press will say ‘limited edition,’ but it’s just because they don’t have the full information. When it comes to releases that don’t get pre-sold to shops, they just get a phone call that there’s a release coming and there’s no promo. So that can create some self-appointed chaos, especially to the record stores that want to bring in a lot of people at once, but then it gets crazy in the press. The Guardian was told that the Burial/Thom Yorke collaboration was only pressed for 300 copies, but there were thousands pressed!”

So there you have it. Now have a listen below…

Hyperdub Records shared some details about their 2012 release schedule in a newsletter this morning, including new records from Burial, Hype Williams and ScratchaDVA. While the latter two have LPs on the way (Black Is Beautiful on April 16th and Pretty Ugly on March 19th, respectively), Burial is delivering yet another EP, a three-tracker that features “Kindred” on the A-side and “Loner” and “Ashtray Wasp” on the flip.

DVA weaved clips of Hyperdub’s upcoming releases (including “Ashtray Wasp”) on a recent Rinse FM show. You can grab the entire set below. Anyone have the tracklisting?

DOWNLOAD THIS NOW: Massive Attack, “Four Walls (Burial Remix)”

Since Massive Attack‘s lavish, insanely limited Burial collab is already out of print, we thought we’d rescue you from eBay scalpers and post the A-side below. “Four Walls” is a groove-engulfing version of a previously unreleased track from Massive Attack’s Heligoland sessions, and while the following MP3 isn’t dusted with gold glitter, it’ll have to do for now…

TEST PRESSING: Stream Burial’s ‘Stolen Dog’ / ‘Street Halo’ Single

Burial‘s first 12” in forever drops next week on Hyperdub. Find out details by signing up for the label’s mailing list here.

As for when we can expect an actual album, Kode9 had this to say in an interview for our new issue: “Our situation with Burial is we’ll release something when we release it. I’m sick of talking about it to be honest, because it always spirals out of control with speculation. It’s better that I release the music when it’s ready. And since it’s not ready, I have nothing to talk about.”

So take that, rampant speculation! Sample radio rips—dropped by Kode9 on BBC Radio 1 last night—of “Stolen Dog” and “Street Halo” below…

THE SELF-TITLED INTERVIEW: Kode9

Photos by Aaron Richter

Words by Andrew Parks

First it was a mask. Then a samurai helmet. And finally, after days of deliberation, a simple sunglasses-and-snowcap ensemble for Steve Goodman—the DJ, producer and Hyperdub founder best known as Kode9—to wear to his self-titled photo shoot. Simply put, Goodman prefers not to have his picture taken, but after stopping by our office for an interview, the genteel Scotsman relented on the condition of maintaining a sliver of anonymity in his image.

Call it finicky, but such controlling behavior is fitting for the man behind the post-apocalyptic dance tracks of Black Sun, a.k.a. Kode9′s second album alongside the Spaceape. Available next month through Hyperdub, it’s an otherworldly listen that unfolds like a paranoid film adaptation of Philip K. Dick, brimming with chest-caving bass lines, radioactive synths, and beats that riddle the pockmarked countryside like swiftly sprayed bullets.

It’s also his most fully realized musical vision yet…

DOWNLOAD THIS NOW: Kode9 & Burial’s Mary Anne Hobbs Mix

As if her own set of swan songs wasn’t a proper enough sendoff (our personal highlight: Prodigy’s remix of “Release Yo Delf”), Mary Anne Hobbs welcomed two of the world’s most reclusive electronic producers on her “Send Off Show” last night. We ripped the rare Kode9/Burial collab right off Radio 1′s stream and captured it in a high quality MP3 after the jump. Anyone wanna help us with the tracklist?
