Look, we can’t blame you for missing some of self-titled‘s finest magazine features from the past year. Digging through our digital issues takes some dedication, which is why we went ahead and selected 20 standout stories from 2011, from Anika discussing modern art at MoMA and exclusive interviews with Zomby and Charlotte Gainsbourg to pieces about bourbon, Nine Inch Nails, whiskey, stage outfit sketches, gospel, minimalism, personal record collections, and the power of the riff.

Have a look and a listen below, or head here to subscribe to self-titled‘s fully interactive edition for just $8 a year…

As you may have noticed in the flyer to your right, we’re hosting a free holiday party tomorrow night to celebrate the release of our year-end issue. All you have to do is RSVP to events@grandlifenyc.com and show up at Tribeca Grand around 11, when Veronica Vasicka of Minimal Wave records sets things off with some choice rarities from her extensive vinyl collection. Xeno & Oaklander will follow that up with a live set around 12:30, and Gavin Russom (The Crystal Ark, Black Meteoric Star, LCD Soundsystem) and Ilirjana Alushaj (Typical Girls, Apache Beat) will close the night with some more s/t-approved dancefloor favorites. Oh, and if you’re worried about getting sauced in such classy environs, drink specials include $5 beers and $8 Stoli cocktails.

So with all of that in mind, we’d like to revisit three exclusive Needle Exchange mixes, a handful of MP3s and some year-end content from Russom and Vasicka after the jump. See you tomorrow!

DOWNLOAD THIS NOW: Ford & Lopatin, “Emergency Room”

“Emergency Room” will be available on a limited “X-ray picture disc” April 26th, along with remixes by Gavin Russom and the Bug. Software/Mexican Summer will follow it up with the first Ford & Lopatin full-length on June 7th.

Judging by their set alongside the album’s mixer (Prefuse 73) a few weeks ago, the thing’s going to be poppy as hell, the next logical step in Daniel Lopatin’s (Oneohtrix Point Never, Infinity Window) evolution from the noise scene to Betamax beats and laser-guided synth lines. We also hear that Autre Ne Veut—the How To Dress Well-like singer who opened up our 0PN release party last year—contributed some guest vocals (that might be him on this song, actually), so you can expect some twisted R&B vibes as well. For now, grab “Emergency Room” below, along with tour dates and a Channel Pressure tracklisting…

NEEDLE EXCHANGE 012: An Exclusive Mix By … Gavin Russom

Gavin Russom‘s done it again, shifting from the shady synthscapes of Black Meteoric Star to the spellbinding 12-inch premier of The Crystal Ark, a groove-engulfing stab at the South American music Russom became obsessed with after a trip to Brazil. DFA’s undisputed dark horse recently moved back to New York after a brief run in Berlin. We’re pretty psyched to have him playing random DJ gigs in town again, and can’t wait to hear his contributions to James Murphy’s current LCD Soundsystem lineup.

In the meantime, we’ve got the following mix, a 90-minute battle between darkness and light that also happens to be one of the richest s/t sets yet. Not one to share all his secrets, Russom explains the Crystal Ark and its relation to his record crate with a playlist-eluding essay after the jump…
