DOWNLOAD THIS NOW: Bear In Heaven, “The Reflection of You (Lovelock Remix)”

Bear In Heaven

Here’s the thing about Bear In Heaven‘s new album: unlike the pitched-down listening party that’s happening at their official site right now, I Love You, It’s Cool is a total head rush listen, flooding your senses with restless rhythms and gleaming, laser-like synth lines. Meanwhile, Steve Moore‘s Lovelock rendition of “The Reflection of You” is a patient lounge pop number that makes us think of leisure suits and yachts named Shirley.

Grab it in MP3 form below, alongside a stream of the original version…

PREMIERE: Zombi Launch Cassette Label, Share New Majeure Song

Steve Moore and A.E. PaterraZombi‘s co-founders, and the purveyors of such proven side projects as Majeure, Gianni Rossi and Lovelock—have launched a new cassette label called VCO Recordings. According to a press release that was slipped under self-titled‘s door this morning, “VCO presents electronic-based music that snatches imagination from the jaws of obsolescence—capturing it lovingly on the highest-quality “dead-media” for the discriminating listener who might remember the ritual and process behind the joy of listening—and for those newcomers who are willing to learn.”

Up first: the Bandcamp-powered pressing of Paterra’s latest Majeure release, Synthesizer of the Gods. You can sample a song from that three-track EP below, with records on the way from Moore, Long Distance Poison, Andy & Zeus, Abul Mogard and Günter Schickert on the way soon after that…

Remix Zombi and Score a Pro Soundcloud Account, Limited Vinyl, and More

As longtime fans of Zombi—including the myriad solo tracks of synth cadet Steve Moore and drummer Anthony Paterra—we’re proud to present a remix contest tied to their new Escape Velocity record. Here’s what Moore had to say about it…

“Sometimes in the middle of the night, I think of something that’s funny, then I go get a pen and I write it down. Or if the pen’s too far away, I have to convince myself that what I thought of ain’t funny.” —Mitch Hedberg

This sums up the way I write music. I feel weird even taking credit for writing this song; it was just running through my head one night. So I don’t have any insight into what it means or anything, it’s just the product of a random firing of synapses. I got the title from an episode of Radiolab I heard on NPR about how memories are formed.

Good luck with the remix. All styles are welcome, but if you really want to get our attention, I recommend taking it in a New Jack Swing or Shep Pettibone-style ’90s house direction…

COMING SOON: Zombi, ‘Escape Velocity’

The Artist/Album: Zombi, Escape Velocity (May 10, Relapse)

The Details: A little less Goblin; a lot more Giorgio Moroder, with enough Kraut-rock flavorings to keep things interesting. Or as synth-slinger Steve Moore put it, “I think the album came together exactly as planned, considering we had no plan. In fact, I’m not even sure we knew we were making an album. Actually I can’t remember at all.  Anyway it’s Jeremy’s artwork that really ties it all together. Naked women, sports cars, mid-century modern architecture, space. The boy’s a Shakespeare.”

Check out Steve’s year-end picks from our current issue below…

TEST PRESSING: Stream Steve Moore’s ‘Primitive Neural Pathways’ LP

The press release for Steve Moore‘s second solo album says it all: “Primitive Neural Pathways is an intergalactic melange and how War of the Worlds would’ve sounded if it had been helmed by Jean Michel Jarre instead of Jeff Wayne. And the aliens had won.” Limited to just 400 LP copies, Moore’s latest synth-driven masterwork is indeed more sci-fi sounding than his solo debut, The Henge. Sample both sides (available for pre-order here) after the jump, along with Moore’s pro-Genesis piece from our third issue…
